Russia improves position in world taxation rating

MOSCOW, November 23 (Itar-Tass) - Russia has improved its position in the world rating of the taxation regime by facilitating the tax payment procedure. This follows from the results of the annual study “Tax payment-2010. International review,” drawn up by the World Bank, the International Financial Corporation (IFC) and the PricewaterhouseCoopers consulting group.

According to PricewaterhouseCoopers, Russia improved its position by the aggregate index and moved upward from the 103rd to the 31st place in 2009. In the opinion of experts, this is connected with the reduction of the administrative pressure. For instance, it became possible, starting from 2008, to pay VAT once in a quarter, instead of every month. The fact that the electronic system of submitting tax documents began to be actively used also promotes the improvement of Russia’s rating.

The document analyses the tax payment procedure in 183 countries from the point of view of administrative pressure, needed for the observance of requirements of the tax legislation, PRIME-Tass reports.

Comparing Russia with other BRIC countries (Brazil, Russia, India, China) by the simplicity of the tax payment systems, experts came to the conclusion that Russia is in the lead among them. Aside from that, Russia is in the lead by the index of the effective tax rate (129th place), says the document.

This year the ten countries, where the tax payment system is the simplest, included the Maldives, Qatar, Xianggang (China), the United Arab Emirates, Singapore, Ireland, Saudi Arabia, Oman, New Zealand and Kiribati. The ten countries, where the tax payment regime is the most complicated, include Jamaica, Mauritania, Gambia, Bolivia, Uzbekistan, The Central African Republic, the Republic of the Congo, Ukraine, Venezuela and Belarus (from 174th to 183rd places).
