Teck up over 5% to 6.35 with the rest of the market tanking. Anybody know why?

I have been pondering the same thing today. And its not only going against the downward market direction, the SP appears de-coupled from the direction of oil and copper, which is also down today.

There was a sizeable increase in the short position on Teck from 12/31 to 1/15, from 58M to 78M shares short. Copper and gold are higher since that period so I am wondering if the shorts are getting nervous about their position and perhaps are currently covering. We should soon see because we get a new short interest report in the couple of days.
