VD would easily fit into one of the local miners operations and could complement their local reserves and extend their activity/production in the area.

A new miner coming to the area on their own (without a JV with a local) would have to put up more cash upfront to establish their footprint and would need more time to get VD up and running than any of the local miners with established operations.

The same way with SC, if TECK would have passed on the back-in, nobody else would have touched it either, here if the local miners show no interest in VD, to hope for another miner to come in is utterly silly too, imo.
