KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Supervision and management of all water well field operations, and the well field team. This includes supervision and training of expat project hydrogeologists, local project hydrogeologists and field technicians. Data collection and interpretation from water well drilling, geophysics and pumping tests, supervision of drilling programmes and drilling contractors. Supervision of Health and Safety at the workplace.

DUTIES:

· Supervision and management of the expatriate project hydrogeologists, local project hydrogeologists and technicians working in the Hydrogeology team.

· Monitoring water level measurements, and water quality in line with IFC and the ESHIA commitments.

· Managing the well field to provide fresh-brackish water (solvent) to solution mining and construction site activities.

· Applying knowledge of fundamental geology to develop an understanding of how the rock types and structure in the project area impact on groundwater occurrence and movement.
· Understanding and interpreting maps, geographical data, historical evidence and models to build up a picture of the groundwater regime and/or land contamination.
· Using software to model groundwater flow, chemistry and temperature according to geological formations, surface water flow and man-made influences.
· Undertaking field work and site visits for investigative and monitoring purposes.
· Designing and commissioning boreholes, sampling and measuring groundwater and surface water.
· Undertaking environment impact assessments of groundwater abstraction and management activities.
· Liaising with ELCR department to comply with ESHIA mitigation plans and CDP’s.
· Managing contractors.
· Completion of timely monthly reports.
· working within health and safety guidelines


MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

· Completion of BSc degree in hydrogeology/geology/engineering geology.

· Minimum of 10 years’ experience in hydrogeology and production well field management.

· Willingness to work required roster, including night shift.

· Knowledge of a range of sciences and their applications.

· Ability to work within a multidisciplinary team of experts and engineers.
· Ability to lead and think independently, critically analyse and make decisions.
· Computer literacy and ability to analyse numerical and graphical data.
· Good English written and verbal communication skills.
· Able to pass a company medical assessment and on-going health checks as required.
· Able to furnish police and other related clearances as required.

OTHER CONDITIONS:

· Reports to the Project Manager and the ELCR Manager although reporting lines may change subject to requirements.

· Must be capable of working independently on tasks.

· Position shall be based in the Danakil Depression at the Allana Potash Field Camp and its surrounding sites or the Addis Ababa office depending on work requirements. The Company reserves the right to move the location of work at its discretion and will provide sufficient notice of such movements.

· Job specific and general Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) shall also be worn as required.
· May be required to work night-shift and early morning shifts according to roster.

· Adherence to and compliance with all Company policies is required. Disciplinary action may result where an employee fails to perform the duties required of them and fails to follow any reasonable instructions provided by supervision during the course of their employment.
