2009-07-08 21:49:30 - Matrix Design Group, LLC announced today approval for three additional system components; Low-Profile Reader, One-Port Reader and Back-up Power Unit (BPU), for its previously approved METS tracking and communications system by the U.S. Department of Labor’s Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA).

Newburgh, IN-

“The addition of the Low-Profile Reader, One-Port Reader, and BPU to our original MSHA approval provides unmatched ease of use, lower cost to the operator, and control over power and battery components in both production and post-accident conditions”, said Matrix President Aric Pryor. “We believe the ongoing development of additional components for our system is key to providing simple, integrated, cost-effective safety and productivity tools for our operators across the US.”

METS Low-Profile Readers have been developed in order to minimize clearance issues with mobile machinery in low-seam mines and on working sections. In these situations maximizing clearance is crucial; therefore, Matrix is providing a reader that only extends two (2) inches off the roof in cable-powered configuration or four (4) inches off the roof in battery-powered configuration. This addition is an integral step forward in providing low maintenance tracking, communication, and atmospheric monitoring systems for operators.

METS One-Port Readers have been developed in a continuing effort to provide a cost-effective, MINER Act compliant system. Matrix has developed the reduced-cost, single port antenna for the purpose of covering areas where the redundancy of a multiple port reader is not needed.

The METS Back-up Power Unit (BPU) is another tool developed to improve ease of maintenance of the system by allowing for monitoring and remote control of all necessary functions to charge, monitor and condition batteries used to supply power to hubs located underground or in remote surface locations. All functions, which include individual battery condition, auxiliary relay output(s) and analog input(s) status, charging status and incoming voltage, are constantly monitored and available for display at any METSView station.

Since 2006, METS systems have been tracking workers and equipment in underground coal mines across the United States. The METS system is the most fully developed system in the industry – designed for mining with the input of miners, with over 30 major enhancements to our software interface and user tools in the last two years. While Matrix continues to be the industry leader in US tracking installations, currently tracking over 15,000 miners in all major underground coal mining regions, Matrix is also continually developing new products to provide reasonably priced, low-maintenance, tracking, communications, and atmospheric monitoring systems to operators.

METS is distributed and supported by Delta Electric of Logan, WV, Carroll Engineering Company of Harlan, KY and Carroll West of Wellington, UT. More information on the above new METS products, existing products, and Matrix Design Group can be found at www.matrixdginc.com.
