Noront Resources

The issue of First Nation compensation or rights is not something Noront can deal with on their own and you can't blame the Webequie people from being reluctant to sign any agreement which might then be referred to as some kind of 'standard'.

During exploration stages there are expenses and no revenue, the First Nation people are looking down the road a long way to when there are revenue streams from the extraction of natural resources. It's difficult for them since the area under exploration is not part of there treaty property and they're going to have to make as strong a claim as possible to gain whatever rights they can from the Provincial/Federal Government.

Noront has laid the groundwork to be respectful and take direction from concerned First Nation people including others besides Webequie who can also clam some rights or interest in this area. I can't see any difficulty arising from the lack of agreement since Noront will be guided by the spirit of proposed agreement and that seems fine by the Native Peoples who just wish to keep all of their 'options' open.
